Name: Tornjak.

Other name: Hrvatski pas Planinac, Croatian Mountain Dog.

Country/region of origin: Croatia.

Date of origin: Ancient.

Height: Males: 67-73 cm. (26,3-28,7 in), most desirable is about 70 cm. (27,5 in). Females: 62-68 cm. (24,3-26,7 in), usually about 64 cm. (25,1 in).

Weight: Males: 50-60 kg. (110-132 lb), females: 35-45 kg. (77-99 lb).

Colour: All known colours, but always a white base. The most common colour is a pure white base with brown or black spots.

Present situation: Rare, especially outside of Croatia.

Additional info: The Tornjak is nationally recognized in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Croatian Kennel Association is working for International FCI recognition, which hopefully will happen in late 2001.
