Name: Sarplaninac Other name: Sarplaninac, Ilirski Ovcar, Illyrian Sheepdog. Country/region of origin: Sarplaninac mountains, Macedonia/Kosovo/Albania. Date of origin: Ancient. Height: Males: above 61 cm. (24 in), females: above 57 cm. (22,5 in). Weight: Males: 35-45 kg. (77-99 lbs), females: 30-40 kg. (66-88 lbs). Colour: Usally sable or grey with darker "overalls" on the head and back, the underneat being paler. Almost all other colours are accepted, exept for large white spots. Present situation: Rare. The breed have become rare even in its original region because of the recent war. Additional info: Recognized by FCI in 1939. Far larger speciments than described above are not unusual. |
