Name: Polski Owczarek Podhalanski Other name: Podhalanczyk, Polish Tatra Sheepdog. Country/region of origin: Tatra Mountains, Poland. Date of origin: Middle ages or earlier. Height: Males 65-70 cm. (25,5-27,5 in), females 60-65 cm. (23,5-25,5 in). Weight: Not stated in the official standard of the breed. Colour: Entirely white. Present situation: Quite rare in the country of origin (about 800 speciments). A few breeders abroad, especially in France, Germany & the Netherlands. Additional info: Many of the Polish Tatra Sheepdogs are still used as working dogs, defending sheeps against bears, wolves and thieves in the Tatra and Beskidy Mountains in Southern Poland. |
