Date of origin: Middle ages ?/Reconstructed in the 1920's.

Height: Males: 63-70 cm. (24-27 ½ in), females: 58-65 cm. (22 ½ - 25 ½ in).

Weight: Males: 30-40 kg (66-88 lbs), females: 25-35 kg. (55-77 lbs).

Colour: The breed exists in three different colours; Black & Tan, Black, Blonde.

Present situation: Well distributed, without being common.

Additional info: The old working breed was almost extinct when Mr. Kurt Kõnig in the 1920's began a reconstruction by using speciments resembling the old type, mixing them with German Shepherd Dogs, Kuvasz, Newfoundlands and Leonbergers.
Recognized by the German Kennel Club in 1937.
