Date of origin: Ancient.

Height: Males 68-74 cm. (26,7-29 in), females 63-69 cm. (24,7-27,1 in). 4 cm. (1,5 in) more or less is accepted.

Weight: Males 45-60 kg. (99-132 lb), females 35-50 kg. (77-110 lb).

Colour: Fawn, brindle, wolfgray and yellow, either self-coloured or with white markings.

Present situation: The most popular of the Portuguese Molossers.

Additional info: The original mountain type, which still can be found in remote areas, is much larger and heavier built. By some regarded as the oldest Molosser in the Iberian Peninsula. Named after the Serra da Estrela Mountains in northern Portugal.
