As most of the Sicilian Molosser breeds, the exact origin of the Vucciriscu is difficult to track.
The Vucciriscu has lived in Sicily for many hundred years, and its name derives from "Vucciria", that translates to "butcher shop", giving the name of the breed the meaning of "butchers dog". It was used both as a guardian of livestock, but also as a protection dog for the butchers, to protect their valuable goods and money.
The present situation for the Vucciriscu is unknown for Molosserworld at this point in time.
