The Cani Pertiatzu is breed used for hunting, guarding, personal and property defense, and in former days used as a wardog.
The breed is calm and terrible at the same time, very strong and with an incredible long life. Its quite normal finding
Pertiatzus of 16 years old.
Cani Pertiatzus from Gavoi.
The dog on the left is very similar to the Spanish Villano de las Encartaciones.
The weight of the Pertiatzu is between 35 and 50 kg, and the height is between 55 and 65 cm, but it is possible to find
larger speciements.
The coat colour is almost always brindle. Pertiatzu (male) & Pertiatza (female) in the sardinian language means brindle.
In Sardinia we have a breed of cattle, called Baca Pertiatza (brindle cow), with the same coat.
Cani Pertiatzu and Baca Pertiatza were always together before the rural changments, the Cani Pertiatzu guarding
the Baca Pertiatza.
The native Sardinian cow, the Baca Pertiatza.
The main native name of the breed is Cani Pertiatzu, but it is also called Cani Trinu, Beltigadu, Pertigatzu, Sorgolinu.
The Italian name used on the Pertiatzu is Dogo Sardesco.
