Molosserworld at moloss.com

There are written many books about the different Molosser breeds, some good, some very good, and some simply useless. At this page I want to recommend books that I personally have read and which I consider as money well spent. Let me add that there are not many books that I would reccommend, and at this page I will only list the absolutly best books.

Name: The History of the Mastiff

Author: M.B. Wynn

Published: 1886/reprint 1988

Published by: William Loxley/Peregrine Press

Available from: Antique book-shops & private dealers

ISBN number: No ISBN.

Number of pages/size of book: 222 pages/12,7 x 19,7 cm. (4,99 x 7,74 in.)

Pictures/illustrations: No pictures or illustrations

Comments: This book was written in 1886, and a limited edition reprint of 500 copies was published in 1988. If you ever come across this book at an antique book-shop, or through a private dealer, buy it!! Mr. Wynn gathered an large amount of information that else would have been lost. He cover in his book the history of the Molossers, many breeds like Alaunt, Asiatic Mastiffs, Dutch Mastiff, Bulldogs, etc. and of course the Mastiff. Even if some of his opinions are a bit "outdated" this is a very enjoyable book to read, and well worth the money. This book is very valuable for the Molosser history researcher, and I have quoted from the book many times at the Molosserworld pages.

The History of the Mastiff

Name: The Bulldog, a Monograph

Author: Edgar Farman

Published: 1899/reprint 1985

Published by: ?/Nimrod Book Services

Available from: Antique book-shops & private dealers

ISBN number: No ISBN/0-947647-12-0

Number of pages/size of book: 159 pages/21,5 x 28,2 cm. (8,45 x 11,08 in.)

Pictures/illustrations: 187 pictures and illustrations

Comments: The Bulldog, a Monograph was written by Edgar Farman in 1899, and in 1985 a limited edition reprint of 1500 copies was published.
This book is still regarded as the Bulldog-bible by fanciers, and I must say that I fully agree. To this date there have not been written any other book about the Bulldog that can be regarded as a better and more complete book about the Bulldog of old times.
This book is wonderful illustrated with old prints and pictures of great Bulldogs up to the late 1800's, as well as pictures of important persons in the creation of the modern Bulldog and the Bulldog Club.
This book would be a great addition in the bookshelf of all Bulldog fanciers, admirerers and researchers.

Comments: This is the book that every Boxer fancier, breeder and researcher should add to their collection. The book has some old illustrations, especially by Ridlinger, but most valuable is the large amount of pictures of important Boxers from the early part of the history of the breed. Included in the book there are also some very important early pedigrees, something that the Boxer history reseracher will find very valuable.
