The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, also called "Otto", is the old plantation dog, originating in the Alapaha River region of
southern Georgia, USA. They were used during plantation days as watch dogs and livestock working dogs.
The ABBB is, like the American Bulldog,
a descent from the old type english bulldog brought over by the settlers. People from the US who I have
talked with state that the ABBB and the American Bulldog are actual the same breed, and the ABBB-breeders have only kept as breeding animals
speciments who slightly differ from the American Bulldog. They state that all you can find within the Blue Blood Bulldog Breed, you can also find
in different lines of the American Bulldog.
Some says that the ABBB is a recent creation, done by crossing the American Bulldog and the Catahoula Leopard Dog.
Mr. John D Johnson, the originator of the Johnson line American Bulldog, claims that Lana Lou Lane did buy an AB from him some years ago, which she used
in her breeding programme. The ABBB enthusiasts does however claim that the breed have been kept unchanged for generations, and that PaPa Buck Lane of Rebecca, Georgia, started a generations-old
breeding program to save and preserve the old plantation dog of southern Georgia,
who was almost extinct.
Whatever story that is correct, regarding the history of the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, we can all agree that this is a very nice Bulldog who deserves it's recognition in the dog-world.
